CHAPTER SIXTEEN

He walked into the room and while my eyes took in every inch of him, he had yet to acknowledge me. The door shut just as quickly as it opened. Finally, I was completely alone with Lennox—my boss, my stranger.

The sound of his steps crackled through the room, sending a course of energy rippling through me. There were so many possibilities of what he could do to me, so many thoughts that filled my mind of how he’d take me that I was surprised I was able to lie still with the restlessness surging through me.

He wore the same suit from earlier, showcasing his long legs and thick thighs, those tapered hips, and that wide chest. My eyes continued drifting higher, taking in the smooth column of his neck, the strong angle of his jaw, the full set of those lips. Reflexively, as if feeling euphoric tingles burst across my lips, my hand met my mouth. Pressing down, I relived the moment when his lips met mine. How I craved for more, how I wanted his lips to find every part of my body and kiss away the hollow feeling that had found its way into every piece of me in his absence.

“Uh, uh, uh.”

Other than the click of his shoes, this was the first sound I’d heard from him since he entered the room. My eyes darted up to meet his, seeking something, some kind of information to tell me what happened next. However, when I looked up, I only saw his profile, could only make out the fixed determination his face usually held. If it weren’t for the curve of his long eyelashes or the stubble that marked his long day, I would have thought he was a statue come to life. Those thick eyebrows, that strong nose that didn’t have so much as a crook or bump to offset the perfection of his face, his impenetrable stare—I had dreamed about those features. In my dreams his eyes were like lasers that I couldn’t bring my eyes to meet. Those green orbs took hold of something inside me that I couldn’t explain, but I could feel coursing through every part of me. They took hold of me like invisible chains—there to hold me just for his amusement.

My fingers swiped across my lips one last time before I let my hand fall back against the slickness of the sheets. Lennox continued his progression across the room until he stood before the dresser, next to the bench where I found his note. His movements were precise, mechanical even, as he opened the drawer. He reached in and pulled a couple things out, but from this angle and this distance, I was unable to see just what it was he carried. Every new movement had me on edge as I patiently waited for acknowledgement from him. Yet, he still hadn’t so much as looked my way.

Lennox continued walking alongside the bed until he reached the nightstand to the left of me.
